most streamed artist on spotify 2019

Drake was just named the artist of the decade

Drake has been named the musical artist of the decade by one of the biggest streaming platforms in the world.

The Toronto rapper's songs were played more than 28 billion times globally on Spotify over the last ten years, and his song One Dance was the second most popular song of the decade.

Next in line were Ed Sheeran — who had the most-streamed track of the decade, Shape of You — and Post Malone, with Ariana Grande and Eminem rounding out the top five.

Posty was the most popular artist on the service this year specifically, with 6.5 billion plays, while the top song of the year was Canadian Shawn Mendes and girlfriend Camila Cabello's collaboration, Senorita.

Billie Eilish's debut When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? was the most-streamed album of 2019, and the L.A. teen was also the most-streamed female artist of the year.

In other Spotify news, Jay-Z coincidentally just added his entire discography to the platform today. The move was apparently in honour of his 50th birthday, but maybe just a tiny bit motivated by the fact that he thinks he could have nabbed the top spot.
