Face masks will soon be mandatory on VIA Rail in Canada
Face masks will be mandatory for all VIA Rail passengers starting next week.
VIA Rail is requiring passengers and employees to wear face masks both in stations and on trains when physical distancing can't be maintained. Young children and people with breathing difficulties unrelated to COVID-19 are exempt from wearing a mask.
We know travelling during this time may raise questions and concerns. That is why we have made changes to our services and implemented preventive health measures. If you’re ready to start moving again, we’re here for you! https://t.co/CBiUoOhneX pic.twitter.com/bVeJ1tjova

Masks can be removed when eating or drinking, though VIA Rail's full meal and beverage service is suspended and they're only serving a complimentary snack and water during travel. You can bring snacks and meals with you on your trip.
VIA Rail is putting these measures in place as they're seeing an increase in ridership with restrictions in Canada being lifted. A limited number of disposable masks will be available for those who don't have one.
