In cities like Toronto and Vancouver, $1 million is pretty much the average price of a house. In fact, it's actually a bit higher than $1 million in Vancouver. It's $1.2 million. Ouch.

But if you've ever wondered where you'd get the most bang for your buck, here's what $1 million homes look like in cities across Canada. 

Calgary

Move right into the modern four-bedroom home in Bridgeland Riverside. With almost 3,000 square feet of living space, there's tons of room to spread out. The landscaping is the big selling point. The owners put $80,000 into the exterior. 

Toronto

This adorable home can either be split up into a duplex or combined into one family home. There are three bedrooms, two bathrooms and huge backyard. 

Winnipeg

Nestled in the Bridgewater Forest suburb is this stunning custom built home. This neighbourhood is surrounded by nature and the home incorporates that into its design with large floor-to-ceiling windows, natural stone walls and gorgeous views of the forest from almost every room. 

Vancouver

The closest thing I could find to a detached house for $1 million in Vancouver was this four-bedroom duplex. While the interior is pretty basic, if not a bit dated, it's in a decent location with good transport links. And when it comes to real estate, location is king.  

Montreal

Within walking distance of Molson Park and Iberville Subway station is this ultra sleek and minimalist new build for just a little over $1 million. It's open concept with lots of natural light and has a heated English courtyard to boot. 

Ottawa

Waterfront property is rare, but for $1.025 million you can have over 200-feet of private waterfront. This four-bedroom, four-bathroom post and beam house is a 50 minute drive from downtown Ottawa but is a nature lovers dream. Plus, that privacy and property seem worth the commute. 

Saskatoon

Located in the affluent Nutana neighbourhood, this single family home has a designer kitchen, plenty of room in the basement and private backyard with a huge deck and lots of trees. 

St. Johns 

Any baseball fans out there might just fall in love with this five bedroom home. It backs onto a baseball diamond. But apart from that, the home is delightful. Some of the big features are an open concept kitchen with a sub-zero wine fridge, a master bedroom with two large closets and a man-made pond in the backyard for added tranquillity.
