Filipino supermarket Seafood City continues to open stores across Canada

Seafood City, the massive supermarket chain specializing in Filipino foods and groceries, is quickly expanding across Canada.

The megamart and community hub has just opened a new location in Calgary, marking its third store in the country.

Founded in California in 1989, the brand (which already has locations in cities across the United States) first arrived in Canada in 2017 with a store in Mississauga, Ontario.

The 50,000-square-foot store has become a one-stop shop for the Filipino communities from Toronto and neighbouring areas, especially with the arrival of a Jollibee inside the supermarket in 2018.

Aside from selling a massive list of Filipino staples like bangus or halo-halo ice cream, Seafood City also offers takeout food like banana leaf meals and pata pork hocks from vendors like Grill City or Noodle Street.

Since last year, Seafood City has opened a location in Winnipeg's Garden City Shopping Centre, and has announced that it will be launching another store in Edmonton soon.
